New Release coming from a.vanvranken 6/14

ARTIST: a.vanvranken
TITLE: Landed
LABEL: Daly City Records
CAT-NO: DCR164
FORMAT: Digital
RELEASE DATE: 6/14/11

Landed is the third LP from idm and downtempo producer A.VanVranken, produced and fine-tuned over several years. Taking a cue from more mellow idm and ambient influences such as The Flashbulb and Autechre, Landed is grounded in melody and intentional beats rather than the harder idm-style turbulent noise. Starting things off confidently with the sunny roadtrip of ‘Tomorrow’ and ending with the deliberate calm chaos of ‘Scy’, the album guides one through bright and danceable head-bobbing moments, industrial suspense, and introspective interludes catered by mysterious, unintelligible vocal samples allowing you to insert your own context into each track. Elements of non-idm artists such as El-P and Black Moth Super Rainbow sneak into tracks like ‘Trench’ and ‘Miguel’ to add variety and complexity to the soundscape, with intriguing distortions and repetitive glitchy hooks scattered throughout to flow it together in a carefully-arranged and cohesive package. Landed might best be described as ‘active background glitchbient shoegaze’ – a soundtrack for a beautiful day spent outside, or afterhours chilling at home.

New Mindelixir LP coming 5/31

ARTIST: Mindelixir
TITLE: Doomsday Ticket LP
LABEL: Daly City Records
CAT-NO: DCR163
FORMAT: Digital
RELEASE DATE: 5/31/11
MASTERED BY: Shawn Porter

Mindelixir has been making crazy music since he was 12 years old. His jazz/funk infused blend has been often categorized as dubstep, but there’s something very different about his sound. Doomsday Ticket is the soundtrack to an alternate version of reality where cephalopods have risen to assume control of the planet and man is offered a ticket at the end of days if he wishes to survive. Blending hip hop rhythms with reggae and jazz in a futuristic bowl of dubstep based soup, the album delivers from a sub in the club per-spective to a melodies in my headphones. The album was created to be able to stand-alone as a piece that listeners can enjoy at home, in their cars or on headphones, while simultaneously being compatible with the raging dancefloors that influenced the producer’s sound. Leaning back to the old school funk musicians of the 70s and hinting at the UK funky rhythms of today, this is a release not to be missed. It’s Mindelixir’s second full length LP supported by a Madison House booked national tour effort and released on Mochipet’s Daly City Records. Get ready to leave the planet.

Deceptikon – Mythology limited edition 12″ out now!

ARTIST: Deceptikon
TITLE: Mythology of the Metropolis
FORMAT: 12” vinyl
LABEL: Daly City Records / Tokyo Ghost Island
CAT-NO: DCR156 / Tokyo 001
LIMITED: 300 copies on transparent blue vinyl with 11×17 insert poster
RELEASE DATE: 03/08/2011
DISTRIBUTION: Revolver USA

“Mythology of the Metropolis” is highly anticipated third Deceptikon album, and is easily his most ambitious work to date. The full-length version of “Mythology of the Metropolis” was released digitally on Daly City Records to rave reviews, chart-topping sales, and widespread fan praise. Now, Daly City Records and new upstart label Tokyo Ghost Island have teamed up to press five of the hottest tracks from “Mythology of the Metropolis” on wax. This is a serious collector’s item. The 12” is pressed to a ridiculously limited 300 copies on transparent “coke bottle” blue, with a fold-out 11 x 17 insert poster.

The record is a genre-hopping, bass-heavy, mind-bending 12” of epic proportions, one that is equally suited for the home stereo as well as the dance floor. Heavy analog bass lines, vocals mangled just beyond recognition, vocoded samples, and thumping drums play like a soundtrack to genres that haven’t yet been invented. Created primarily while Deceptikon was living in Japan, “Mythology of the Metropolis” is an extended love letter written to the city of Tokyo, and a reflection of the cacophonous, overwhelming, and intense nature of city life. A critical and underground cult favorite, Deceptikon is an artist to watch in 2011.

TRACKLISTING:

A1) Kinyoubi

A2) The Humans Return

A3) Indo Loops

B1) Broken Synthesizers

B2) Copy The Floppy

“Deceptikon is a recent transplant to the Bay Area, and he’s brought with him a new album … an exciting and versatile slice from this upcoming producer.”

XLR8R Magazine

“Mythology of the Metropolis consists of 14 examples of crisp, vibrant, post-Dilla instrumental hiphop, with flashes of pretty IDM melodies and late-’00s bass wobble. (It is) mapping out a fertile field where IDM and dubstep’s textural playfulness and extremity tampers with hiphop’s rhythmic parameters, but without causing fissures in its essential funkiness.”

Seattle Stranger

“You’ll find no shortage of crisp beatsmithing and bleepy melodies bumping through Wright’s future-funk”
