MORE INFO

Born in Taiwan R.O.C. to Rocket Scientist father and Kindergarten Teacher mother, David Wang (a.k.a. Mochipet) has been tinkering with electronics since he was a child. However, not until he added music to the equation, did something special begin to take shape. Having grown up listening to metal guitar, avant-garde jazz, and mainstream hip-hop, Davids eclectic taste can now be seen in his music ever changing, and always evolving.

His fervency for diversity can also be noted in the mixed bag of his many artist collaborations which include the likes of legendary skateboarder Ray Barbee (Powell Peralta), Techo producer Ellen Allien (Berlin), hip-hop MCs Mikah9 (Freestyle Fellowship), Casual (Hieroglyphics), and Raashan Ahmad (Crown City Rockers), electro Miami gangster Otto Von Schirach , booty bass rockstars 215 The Freshest Kids and Spank Rock (BigDada), mashup glitch tweeker Kid606 (Tigerbeat6), Edwardian suit-wearing Daedelus (Ninjatune), glitch popstars Jahcoozi (Kitty-Yo), and avant-garde jazz legend Weasel Walter (Flying Luttenbachers).
David has also shared the stage with a myriad of influential music pioneers, including Autechre, Bassnectar, Big Boi (Outkast), Boom Bip, Bucovina Club, Cargo Natty, Carl Craig, Chris Clark, Cristian Vogal, Daedelus, DJ Plasticman, DJ Qbert, DJ Spooky, Drop the Lime, Ellen Allien, Excision, Felix Da Housecat, Flying Lotus, Ghislain Poirier, Gift of Gab, Glitchmob, Jahcoozi, Juan Maclean, Ken Ishii, Kid Koala, Luke Vibert, Mary Ann Hobbs, Meat Beat Manifesto, Matmos, M.I.A, Mikah9, Modeselektor, Nit Grit, Otto Von Schirach, Rusko, Skream, Superpitcher, Tipper, The Bug, and Tittsworth, to name a select few. His music has been released on various record labels around the world such as Bpitchcontrol (Berlin), Creaked (Switzerland), Peace-off (France), SCION (Los Angeles), and Tigerbeat6 (Oakland). Mochipet has toured throughout America, Asia and Europe in a wide variety of underground and main stage venues such as 1015 Folsom (San Francisco), Bangface (London), Burning Man (Black Rock City), Caf Du Nord (San Fracisco), Club 6 (San Francisco), Dissonant Festival (Belgium), Electron Festival (Switzerland), Emerg-N-See (Portland), Equalizer Festival (Rotterdam),Gilman (Berkley), Golden Pudel Klub (Hamburg), Hemlock (San Francisco), Independent (San Francisco), Low End Theory (Los Angeles), Mighty (San Francisco), Mission Creek Music Festival (San Francisco), MAO (Beijing), Paradiso (Amsterdam), Point Ephemere (France), Re:Fest (Beligium), Rickshaw Stop (San Francisco), San Jose Museum of Art, Shelter (Shanghai), Sonic Bloom (Colorado), SXSW (Austin), The Echo (Los Angeles), The Smell (Los Angeles), Treasure Island Festival (San Francisco), WMC (Miami), and WMF (Berlin).
The clean and unique vibrations David has presented to the music arena have reached as far as the Sports and Skateboarding world as well. His song Sharp Drest (featuring Eric Solo and oonceoonce) is featured throughout the top-selling basketball videogame, NBA2k9 (http://2ksports.com/games/nba2k9/) alongside artists such as Beastie Boys, N.E.R.D., and The Cool Kids. You may have also heard his musical contributions on FuelTV and DIRECTV, providing hand-selected soundtracks to skate legends such as Anthony Van Engelen, Christian Hasoi, Jason Weeman Acuna, Laban Pheidias, Lance Mountain, Ray Barbee, and Tony Hawk.
David has also held residencies at [Eraser] Club (Los Angeles) and Trouble Club (San Francisco) alongside Djs: [a]pendics shuffle, edIT (Glitchmob), John Tejada, Josh Kit Clayton, Kid606, Matt Laszuk, Philip Sherburne, and Sutekh. He recently started a new monthly in San Francisco called Petnation, selling out the venue beyond capacity while showcasing both local and international acts. His efforts have been recognized throughout the music community by way of nominations for titles including Best Electronic Act of 2008 from publications such as Clash Magazine (UK) and San Francisco Bay Guardian. His composition Dessert Search for Techno Baklava has been performed by a 20 piece orchestra, Alarm Will Sound, around the world, most notably at New Yorks Carnegie Hall, and Amsterdams Holland Festival!
Never wasting an ounce of drive, David founded and manages independent record label, Daly City Records (DCR), which runs out of the Bay Area home to many up-and-coming artists such as Ben Samples, Ill-esha, and Freddy Todd. He is working to finish up two new albums, Mochipet is Evil (with MC Zulu) and Rawr Means I love You in Dinosaur, as well as a side project with LA Based DJ Z-Trip. Look for lots to come from the prolific producer and composer.

MCZulu & Mochipet – This Friday 3/9 @ICON Ultra Lounge SF

Performing in a purple dinosaur suit isn’t Mochipet’s only claim to fame — he also occasionally spins real vinyl, collaborates with local jazz ensembles (like The Evan Francis Group, formerly Spaceheater), and creates mashups from bands that are more similar in moniker than they are in tone (e.g., Cash Money Millionaires and Johnny Cash). Also, he knows his music history: The turntablist formerly known as David Wang used to have his own three-hour show on San Mateo’s KCSM, one in a small handful of extant non-commercial jazz stations. Such disparate influences are unusual for a DJ, even in the progressive Bay Area, and it’s no wonder that Mochipet is such a rousing success. Perhaps the biggest testament to his stature as an artist was a 2008 concert at Carnegie Hall, during which a twenty-piece orchestra played Stefan Freund’s arrangement of the Mochipet piece, “Dessert Search for Techno Baklava.” This week Mochipet will unveil a new album, Mochipet Is Evil, which he produced in collaboration with dancehall vocalist MC Zulu. They’ll celebrate with a cast of several other DJs on Friday, Mar. 9, at ICON Ultra Lounge (1192 Folsom St., San Francisco). 9 p.m., $10. IconLoungeSF.com

**EL DIABLO**
This man is a sorcerer of sorts, and his sets fall nowhere short of shocking. A powerful and energetic force on the decks, El Diablo is responsible for the music behind MalLabel’s theme song ‘Rollin With My Crew,’ and is known to flip it to psyphy when the BPM is getting too high, but the crowd’s high is just right. Our own devil with the following details: party rocking crazy pants. El Diablo cut his teeth in the electronic world with San Francisco’s acclaimed Dhamaal Soundsystem. The crew’s Worldly drum n bass sound garnered international attention with their 2004 self-titled debut album, and while the album sold several thousand copies in the US and abroad, the singles, EPs and remixes earned consistent airplay and licensing for various features. His first Release for Mallabel, “Rollin With My Crew” in November 2009, was a top 10 Bestseller on Juno download for over 5 weeks, topping at number 5 and prompting the first Dubstep Music Video release for the title track. He continues to be one of MalLabel Music’s best selling and most popular artists. His latest Album, “Devil in the Machine”, released Oct 24th 2011 on MalLabel, features a collaboration with legendary DnB dj, UFO! and remixes by Megalodon and Liquid Stranger and renews his success, reaching #41 on the Beatport Dubstep Charts.

You may have seen him at such music events as, Low End Theory, South by Southwest, and countless festivals along the west coast. Joe is no stranger to the decks as well, and has begun taking over beats AND the microphone, launching into what will soon be a beyond epic year creatively for Mr. Mousepad.

**ALPACA**
www.Alpaca-Music.com
https://www.facebook.com/ALPACAMUSIC
YEAR: 2030 LOCATION: SAN FRANCISCO
Sifting through the ashes of a post-apocalyptic city, searching the remains of clubs and theaters, one of the lone survivors, Alpaca, braves the new world optimistically with a Jedi Blaster, collecting the necessary pieces to begin a new civilization. Brushing broken glass from subwoofers & loading a stolen DeLorean, elements of a new bass utopia are assembled at the foot of Dolores Park. Having spent the previous decade as a pioneering land un-developer, replacing mega-housing with green space, the solitude of the newly abandoned planet was welcome. But a community had to be assembled to attempt any kind of party, or you know, to reproduce. Forging a crude wall of sound, Alpaca broadcasts a bass beacon developed in the early 2000’s, specifically tuned to attract heads & repel mindless bros responsible for the planet’s destruction. Patiently waiting for signs of life, he drops jams for the world to find – it’s all he knows to do.

**WOLFBITCH**
https://www.facebook.com/lazerclaws
Hellefante top dog, beauty, boss, and producer, WolfBitch is on the prowl. Her infectious blend of futuristic bass, house, dubstep, and tastemaker electronica sets her apart from her contemporaries in the San Francisco scene. Recently playing high profile gigs has seen Wolfbitch hungrier than ever- this set will not be one to miss.

**VNDMG**
https://www.facebook.com/VNDMG
As a child working in South Africa’s Witwatersrand uranium mines, VNDMG never dreamed of being the worldwide sensation he has yet to become. The harrowing effects of years of radiation poisoning are still evident, but his indomitable spirit has kept him upbeat in the face of ongoing adversity.
Though chock-full of intrigue, the tale of VNDMG’s journey to California is long forgotten. His history picks up as 2004 saw him working for slave wages in the Tenderloin spinning Bubblegum House in a dark basement club. One fateful day, a drunk patron spilled his drink and shorted the mixer. In the ensuing silence,VNDMG heard a strange and wonderful sound coming through the basement window – a sound he would later recognize as Glitch Hop. When the good people at Daly City Records found VNDMG, he was malnourished and confused, but his head was swirling with basslines and distorted synths. Within months he was rocking dance floors from the Bay Area to the Black Rock Desert where he has shared the stage with the likes of Kraddy, AK1200, Mochipet, Noah D, Ill-Esha, & Freq Nasty, amongst others.

**Party will be filmed for upcoming Mochipet & MC Zulu video**

We will also be celebrating Kaitlyn Noelle Starbuck turning 32… and for all those that have attended one of Ms. Starbuck’s previous Bday Bashes… you KNOW what is in store, so get ready!!!

*And because she adores costume parties and of course a good hot mess, we’ve decided to pair the 2 together…

MARK INSTINCT (Rottun Recordings | Canada)

A purveyor of fierce, penetrating beats and filthy basslines, Mark Instinct is one bad muthafucka – literally. With roots in metal, hip hop, punk and drum and bass there is no sound off limits for this young producer from Calgary who’s firmly secured himself amongst some of dubstep and drum and bass’s elite. Known for his explosive stage performance and his suave nature behind the decks, you can be sure that Mark Instinct will have your dancefloor poppin. With 2011 appearances at Starscape and Shambhala, and a Australian/US Tour already under his belt, you can be sure Mark Instinct has carved a solid name in the bass game.

This past year Mark’s first EP, Get Loud, was dropped on Rottun Records and featured 5 weighty tracks that have all gotten major playback with everyone from Excision to Bare rinsing them. Currently working on EP releases for both Rottun Recordings and Subhuman Recordings, you can be sure that Mark’s next release will be showing up on Beatport’s Top 100 chart, where he’s had numerous other releases land. In addition to his upcoming releases watch for forthcoming collaborations featuring the likes of Armani Reign, Messinian and Death by Stereo’s Efrem Shulz.

DCARLS (Simplify|Baltimore)
DCarls is coming with the HEAT from Baltimore, Maryland. This talented Glitch and Dubstep producer has his second EP release on Simplifly Recordings title “Flavorhythm 2″. DCarls does not hold back on ”The Heat” in this roller coaster tune with the twists, turns, and screwing bass drops in this a hand crafted masterpiece.

There is no question as to why his tracks are flying up Beatport’s charts. Able to muscle basslines around with the best of them, his compositional and theoretical background in piano and guitar make this stuff look easy, but the intricacy and precision are unbelievable. With an infectious, heavy metal riff and pulsing drums that break down into drum & bass with great regularity, “Splash” is about as subtle as a sledgehammer.
There is no question, not a shred of doubt that this kid is a superstar waiting to break out… and we can’t wait to say “we told you so.”

SF Weekly Mochipet on Wearing His Big Purple Dinosaur Suit, and Playing LovEvolution This Saturday

While many DJs can say they’ve performed alongside dance music icons such as Rusko, Bassnectar, and Mary Anne Hobbs, few can honestly claim that they’ve worn a purple furry dinosaur suit the entire time. Bay Area native Mochipet , who began his career with his well-known album, Girls Love Breakcore, has demonstrated his passion for music through residences in L.A., his founding of Daly City Records, and his collaboration with a 20-piece orchestra that performed his composition “Dessert Search for Techno Baklava” at Carnegie Hall, among other notable venues. He chatted with All Shook Down about breakcore, his favorite mochi flavor, and playing LovEvolution this Saturday.
