“musical mad scientist” – Mochipet gets some love in Denver

mochipet-02

Mochipet at Beta

At some point in the future, all music is going to transmogrify into one big crazy-ass mess of sound, and the smart money says that future fusion is going to sound a lot like what Mochipet — aka David Wang — is doing right now. He’s worked with everyone from Berlin techno masters such as Ellen Allien to hip-hop MC Casual, placed tracks on Fuel TV and on video games such as NBA 2K9, and recently released an amazing wobbly-bass “Thriller” remix that probably had MJ’s zombified corpse busting moves in his secret grave. The DJ/producer/label head of Daly City Records is something of a musical mad scientist, cross-breeding masterful hybrids of cutting-edge hip-hop, squelchy electro and hard, crunchy, digital-noise experimentalism. Those elements undergo an alchemical transmutation in his hands, and the results, naturally, are pure gold. Head down to Beta’s Beatport Lounge and hear it for yourself Friday, October 23.

Glitch Hop, Ninja style, electronic Samurai

MusSck got recorded a really nuff piece for us. all. Exploring the trippiest regions of such music styles as trip hop, idm and glitch he created sounds and patterns that just begg you for getting another vombatklad, sitting on your sofa and getting yourself inside the nOw. Thanks to its pre-recorded nature we got a chance to listen to it already, and must tell you it’s not something you hear every day. The piece you’re going to hear was recorded in a pretty nuff conditions , making it sound really hmm! demanding, yes.. this is a piece for demanding listeners, sit back and enjoy!

The Flying Skulls melt dancefloors with that crunk-blap teleportation sh*t

Flying Skulls recent news!!! yeah, news

fresh

The Flying Skulls have been on a tear lately, dipping their wings into just about everything. The crew bummed-rushed a few choice shows this summer and melted dance floors at The Big Bounce/Belden, Trinumeral/Asheville, Symbiosis Gathering/Yosemite, and most recently The Independent/SF with Boombox and Ana Sia. Dubbed the ‘Kings of Improvisational Beat Bashing’ by ChromeKids, The Skulls have been bringing it hard and to-the-point with maximum live electronic mayhem. Crowds across the country have been eating up the group’s off-the-clock style, mean dirty bass sounds, and complex rhythms, while memorable sets in the festival circuit have garnered the performers a huge crossover fan-base.

The Skulls also seem to be music-making machines, with new tracks, mixes, and remixes surfacing almost weekly. The list of recent and upcoming releases include dual remix albums: Abducted! Vol 1 on 1320 Records, and Abducted! Vol 2 on Mochipet’s Daly City Records, a remix of STS9’s Hidden Hand with Abstract Rude for the Make it Right album, a track on the Symbiosis Compilation out on Muti Music, a track and video for the A/V project ‘Savage Henry,’ two remixes for Mochipet’s upcoming album, and a pair of remixes for a release on BlipSwitch Digital. They also have a track featured in the brand new version of Tap Tap Revenge 3, the number one game for iPhones (30 million downloads).

“With it’s machine gun drum patterns, some of the squelchiest bass alive and twisted G funk synths, [Abducted! is] kinda like listening to classic Dr Dre in a K hole.” -ChromeKids

With all that in the works, it’s surprising that The Skulls can still make it to their regular appearances at Pirate Cat Radio in SF, put out hot hot mix tapes like the Symbiosis ’09 rage-down or plan upcoming tours in the North West, Mountain Country, and South East! But be assured good citizen, that blip you see on your radar screen is indeed The Flying Skulls, secure any loose items and get ready to party.

FREE MIX: SYMBIOSIS ’09 RAGE-DOWN- The Flying Skulls engaged in an aerial bombing run on the Forest Stage at Symbiosis Gathering this year (see above pic), and caused quite a stir as they put the sound system through it’s paces. They brought back this black-box recording of the entire incident, and are making it available for free to the public. Duck and cover.

“[The Flying Skulls] produce some of the best deep bass party grime but somehow manage to stay sophisticated and hold the listener’s attention for more than 5 minutes. Raw, but never hard on the ears, each of the (producers) bring their own flavor, making the overall sound a tricked-out blend of crunk, dubstep and breaks.” Canary / Pirate Cat Radio 87.9fm

STS9 – Peaceblaster: The New Orleans Make it Right Remixes
“Information gives me a rush, it’s like drugs.” Very true in today’s world, with everything right at our fingertips at all times. I wonder if that were taken away, would we “come down,” so to speak? … I think this line–from the Flying Skulls remix of STS9’s “Hidden Hand, Hidden Fist”–represents this massive remix effort well. It’s the 17th track out of 30–nearly two and a half hours of music–and is one of six tripped-out versions of this original Peaceblaster mind-ripper.”

Mongolian Mixtape Marathon

WE ARE NOW ON THE ROAD BUT ARE STILL DOWNLOADING MIXES WHERE POSSIBLE. ALL MIXES WILL BE PODCASTED SO FEEL FREE TO KEEP UPLOADING AND DONATING!
WHAT ARE WE DOING?

On July 11th 2009 two drivers will depart on a 10,000 mile drive from London to Mongolia, crossing Europe, central Asia and culminating with a dash across the mighty Gobi Desert. We are raising money for Save The Children, in association with the Mongolian Charity Rally. Our specially equipped off-road vehicle will be packed full of educational materials and clothing to donate to the Mongolian people. We will also be donating the vehicle on arrival.

WHAT IS THE MONGOLIAN MIXTAPE MARATHON?

We’re asking DJs from all over the world, be they big names or bedroom DJs, to upload mixes for us to listen to all the way to Mongolia. We estimate we have 800+ hours driving time and we’re intending to listen to dance music non-stop all the way there! Each DJ will be asked to submit a one hour mix of their favourite tunes and also make a small donation (of at least £1). We’ll then put all the mixes together and listen to them non-stop, all the way to Mongolia!

Once we depart, the mixes will be podcasted to the world as a lasting record of your mixing prowess. They’ll also be hosted on this site for at least a year after we return. So it’s a great place to keep your mixes for others to hear too!

Thanks to our sponsors Ableton – everyone who enters a mix will be eligible to win a copy of Ableton Live 8 in our prize draw, with winners announced shortly before we leave!

WHAT WILL WE DO WITH THE MONEY?

This rally costs around £3000 per team to enter and complete. We have put in significant personal investment ourselves and have been supported by sponsors, friends and family. The money raised from the Mongolian Mixtape Marathon will be put towards our essential fuel and repair costs (estimated at £1200).

WHAT DO SAVE THE CHILDREN DO IN MONGOLIA?

All the money we raise for Save The Children goes towards charity projects in Mongolia. Last year’s teams raised a fantastic £25,000 for Save the Children’s projects in Mongolia. You can read about all the great work Save The Children do in Mongolia here.

CAN I DONATE DIRECTLY TO SAVE THE CHILDREN?

Yes – you can donate here

WHAT HAPPENS IF I WANT TO HELP MORE?

*We’re relying heavily on donations of equipment and cash from generous individuals and businesses. If you have any equipment, money or expertise that you feel could be useful to us, please get in touch! We have plenty of sticker space on the car, as well as on this website for those who can help us out. Sponsoring the Mongolian Mixtape Marathon is a great way to unite your company behind an incredible cause, and can have lasting business benefits long after the rally is finished.

Feel free to get in touch at info@mongolianmixtapemarathon.com if you wish to discuss this further. Companies who have already contributed their products, services, support or money include
