Daly City gets cozy with San Francisco’s The Flying Skulls

Of course it was inevitable… that The Flying Skulls and Daly City Records would make some seriously f*cked up music together.

Born of the same Lower-Haight/Divisadero nu skool swagger, these co-conspirators have been smashing Burger Tuesdays and annoying the Robotspeak guys for the better part of a decade.

Looking forward to future projects! The Skulls upcoming remix album Abducted! Vol 2 will be released as a Daly City Exclusive this fall. The Skulls have also announced a three-EP arc that will first drop on Daly City in late 2009.

We also have the stage-raging set from The Big Bounce coming soon for FREE DOWNLOAD as a Daly City Exclusive, as well as video from LUXVIBES, and select improv deconstruxions from The Skulls show at 1015 Folsom with Kode 9 and Spaceape July 10!

Look out for more propeller-crushing basslines, n*sty drums beats, and complex-BBQ-chicken type sh*t down the road!!!

Digital Single with Remixes

Godzilla New Year is the second single off of Mochipet’s new Epic Glitch’d Out Bass Crunk Anthem, Master P on Atari, released earlier this spring. It combines elements of ethnic Chinese instruments mixed with Street ready Bass Heavy Hip-Hop thrown into a Nintendo 8-bit blender ripped on slow-mo. The beasts are low and chunky and the gongs are bassy and sexy. This release also features remixes by some of glitch and bass’ finest: VibeSquad, Ana Sia, An-ten-nae, and Mimosa, as well as a re-treatments by Mexico’s own Nortec Collective (Clorofila) and Six Degrees Record’s own David Starfire. The combination of styles and cultures are unprecedented, but flows along beautifully to make a surprisingly coherent release. Look for a special Godzilla vs. Mochipet video out soon by the visual media hacker team Savage Henry.

Master P Review on Comfortcomes

transformers-movie

Mochipet’s latest album Master P on Atari reminds me of Transformers. The skillful electronic mix of miscellaneous sounds hit at just the right times and could be part of the soundtrack for those metallic, alien protectors of the world. The album cover even sports a creature somewhat transformer-like, however, this machine has a badass tape recorder and Atari joystick at its center.

The first thing I noticed while listening was that I didn’t mind the fact that there were no real vocals. I’m all about the words, but I think Master P on Atari is a full album despite its lack of lyrics. The album is intricately layered and emotive the same way a voice can lead a listener to feel a certain way.

That certain way in this case is the feeling that I’m in the middle of an action movie breakneck car chase. Police sirens went off (going the opposite direction, I might add) as I was listening to Master P on Atari in my car and I swear I almost sped up and veered off the main drag to lose them. I may be more easily influenced than most, but I was definitely adrenaline-laced due to this album. Which I loved. A fun, inventive album, Master P on Atari had me invested. And driving like a maniac.
