The Sacramento Electronica Music Festival is the brainchild of Adam Saake, a musician, artist and enthusiast of the local music scene. The idea was simple: create an event, on a very limited budget, to celebrate and recognize electronica artists in the Sacramento area.

Saake began to reach out to dozens of artists to gather support for this event. He was taken back by the response. “It was overwhelming, people were genuinely stoked on this idea,” he said. “I think they were just happy to know that we would be creating an event that paid homage to some really great Sacramento artists in this genre.”

Sacramento's electronica roots date back several years to a tiny coffee shop off Freeport Boulevard where a band of artists called the Command Collective created a scene. The collective included artists such as Tycho, Chachi Jones, Dusty Brown, Tha Fruit Bat, Park Avenue and DJ Muppetblast.

While some members of the Command Collective, such as Dusty Brown, are still going strong in Sacramento, many perform less frequently. Tycho, one of the collective's most acclaimed members, moved to San Francisco.

Today the electronica music community is as eclectic as the beats and bleeps that emanate from their instruments. Artists such as City State more closely resemble artists of the Command Collective past, while bands like The New Humans, who employ preprogrammed beats along with swirling piano and crashing drums, and Sister Crayon, who adds pulsating finger-drums and vocal effects with their backing band, take a group approach to the genre.

From Jan. 28-30, The Town House Lounge on 21st Street will host The Sacramento Electronica Music Festival, three days of multi-genre electronica music from local, regional and internationally acclaimed artists.

On Thursday, the Bay Area’s internationally heralded MochiPet will play. Toph One of XLR8R said of the musician, "his shit is dope!" Other performers Thursday will include CityState, Seventh Swami, Thriftcar and Vacant Persons plus DJ Whores, DJ !@N and DJ Crush Delight.

Friday’s portion of the event will be in conjunction with Shaun Slaughter’s raucous dance night “FUCK Fridays.” The night will include “FUCK Fridays” regulars Slaughter, Jon Droll and Roger Carpio, along with performances by The New Humans and producer and dance-music maker Melee Beats.

A reunion of the Command Collective will play Jan. 30, minus Jones.
