Lokae – City Lights

One-Sheet | Cover

ARTIST: Lokae

TITLE: City Lights (EP)

LABEL: Daly City Records

CAT-NO: DCR152

FORMAT: Digital

RELEASE DATE: 05/18/2010

Tracklisting:

01) City Lights (ft. Audio Angel & Joe Mousepad)

02) Till the End

03) Inverse Polarity (ft. Joe Mousepad)

04) Priceless

Lokae’s striking debut City Lights highlights his flexibility for crafting both heavy voltage beats that propel vocal arrangements and also adventurous treks into densely populated future bass narratives. In the effort’s single, “City Lights”, stark drum patterns weave through Joe Mousepad’s push-comes-to-shove rhyme schemes while Audio Angel’s soulful croon uplifts the streets to the skyline. “Till The End” showcases Lokae’s more abstract glitch style that shapes surreal cinematic tales. Liquidic bass towers against laser blips and frigid synth melodies, conjuring impressions of underwater robotic wars between android whale-ships and alien life forms. The animate merges with artifice, as City Lights illuminates as much as it intoxicates.

Kush Arora (Dread Bass Soundsystem/RecordLabelRecords)

“A solid first effort. This is the most unique and original sound that Lokae has presented and we need more of it. He adds to the small pool of actual song based composers in the cluttered genre of west coast bass music.”

Kid Kameleon (Surya Dub)

“Lokae’s range of tunes and vibes is impressive, from the sharp staccato of “till the end” to the fun grit of “inverse polarity”. A great debut!”

ill.Gates (Muti Music)

“Classy and mature sounds from a hot new producer. Sleep on this one and forever regret it!”

Katherine Kirby (Pirate Cat Radio)

“Lokae brings us another glitched out hit, recruiting Bay Area talents Audio Angel and Joe Mousepad on his City Lights E.P. Guaranteed to be a favorite at Pirate Cat Radio!”

Deceptikon – Mythology Of The Metropolis

ARTIST: Deceptikon
TITLE: Mythology Of The Metropolis
LABEL: Daly City Records
CAT-NO: DCR148
FORMAT: Digital
RELEASE DATE: 03/16/2010

Tracklisting:

01) Echolocation
02) Kinyoubi
03) The Humans Return
04) Indo Loops
05) Message From The Resistance
06) Crumar Crush
07) The Fall of Humanity (With He Can Jog)

09) Time Dilation (With Oly)
10) 1990 XLII 60
11) Broken Synthesizers
12) Copy The Floppy
13) Minerva Liberation Society (With Vincent Parker)

“Mythology of the Metropolis” is the highly anticipated third
Deceptikon album, and is easily his most ambitions work to date. The
record is a genre-hopping, bass-heavy, mind-bending album of epic
proportions, one that is equally suited for the home stereo as well as
the dance floor. Heavy analog bass lines, vocals mangled just beyond
recognition, vocoded samples, and thumping drums play like a
soundtrack to genres that haven’t yet been invented. Created primarily
while Wright was living in Japan, “Mythology of the Metropolis” is an
extended love letter written to the city of Tokyo. Over three years in
the making, the album features guest contributions from artists as
diverse as He Can Jog (Audiobulb, Benbecula), Copy (Audio Dregs), Oly
(170, Ipecac), and Vincent Parker (Fourthcity, Run Riot). A critical
and underground fan favorite, Deceptikon is an artist to watch in
2010.

Praise for “Mythology of the Metropolis”:

“Both delightfully nostalgic and supremely contemporary, Mythology of
the Metropolis simultaneously sounds like everything I love and
nothing I’ve ever heard before.  If this is what the future sounds
like, I no longer have any reason to fear getting older.”
-Captain Ahab (Deathbomb Arc, Cock Rock Disco, Dual Plover, Irritant)

“Deceptikon pulls through with yet another strong release.
Well-produced and balanced rhythms, melodies, and beats all contained
within a positive attitude.  A wonderful release to bump while on a
cruse around the neighborhood.  I personally am always anticipating
Dkon’s next release!”
- Jerry Abstract (Shitkatapult, Musick, Schematic, Detroit Underground)

“There is not a single weak song on the new Deceptikon record…
sounds like electroclash kicking hiphops ass. thick & analog. …
electro sci-fi disco giving hip hop a reach around. it should sell
like cakes that are hot.”
- Proem (Merck, n5md, Component, Nonresponse)

Praise for past releases:

“A delicious amalgam of hip-hop, soul, and electropop … teeming with
fresh ideas and both sonically svelte in design and lush in character
… (Deceptikon is) fully qualified to be a next-level hip-hop
producer.”
-Textura

“Dilla comparisons might be in order … a track like “Almond Groves”
has all the organic warmth and grit, in addition to the subtle
synthetic undertones, of a Ummah-era Jay Dee production. ”
-Okayplayer

“(Deceptikon has) an earthly love of jazz and melody that posits him
not many miles away from Britain’s premier laptronica whiz kid, Four
Tet. … Heads will nod.”
-Grooves Magazine

“His ability to keep heads bobbing with hiphop rooted breakbeats and a
large palate of sounds helped him win the (Portland) laptop battle;
these are both what makes his debut full length so hot. … There’s
got to be more heat on the way.”
-Portland Mercury / Seattle Stranger

“Deceptikon is peerless in his ability to get a groove on.”
-Inpress ( Australia )

“A DJ Krush-like grasp of rhythm and melody”
- Seattle Stranger

Radio praise:

“MD thought this was amazing!!  Starting off nicely in rotation here.”
KXLU, Los Angeles

“THAT is a good record!  REALLY good!”
CISM, Montreal

“Fantastic!  This is the album that DJ Shadow should have put out”
KAMP, Phoenix

“Seriously, this might be the best thing I’ve heard all year.”
CJUM, Winnipeg

“It’s really good. I’m gonna push it hard”
WUIC, Chicago

“All over this one! LOVE IT!!!”
WDBM, Detroit

Mochipet – Master P on Atari Transformed Vol. 1

iTunes | Addictech | Amazon | eMusic | Boomkat

Master P on Atari Transformed Vol.1 sets the stage for a futuristic-in- your- face- you -betta -be- paying -attention robot sizzle meltdown. Master P Transformed travels beyond bassy and spacy with plenty of glitched out lazers locked full on the dancefloor.   The remixes have elements of Glitch, Hip Hop, and Electro, but it is still  David Y. Wang, AKA Mochipet guiding the way beneath it all.Track 01 John Coltrane on Atari is exceptional, an acoustic down and dirty tussle. Track 02 comes from the reknowned Kraddy, a money-back guaranteed dance  party banger. Newcomer to Daly City Records, Deceptikon / Zack Wright works his magic on Track 11 Master P on Chords and Coffee, its like gifting you with the perfect  espresso martini buzz. This is a remix record that really gives  the original Master P on Atari its fair due while allowing each artist to contribute their own distinct and  original touch. The Flying Skulls – Abducted! Volume 2

cover

Download on:
iTunes | Addictech | Amazon | eMusic | Boomkat

Downloads:
One-Sheet | Cover

Reviews:
“[The Flying Skulls] produce some of the best deep bass party grime but somehow manage to stay sophisticated and hold the listener’s attention for more than 5 minutes. Raw, but never hard on the ears, each of the (producers) bring their own flavor, making the overall sound a tricked-out blend of crunk, dubstep and breaks.” Canary / Pirate Cat Radio 87.9fm

Of course it was inevitable… that The Flying Skulls and Daly City Records own Mochipet, Vladimir Computin and Preshish Moments would make some seriously f*cked up music together.  The Skulls have also announced a three-EP arc that will first drop on Daly City in late 2009.Check your radar good citizens, that blip you see fast approaching is none other than The Flying Skulls, a nu-school production team that plays live improvisational dub-step, breaks, and electro! The group brings the future-soundz of the modern dance music studio and interpolates them through the filter of live improv. With an old school jazz ethos The Skulls combine their tightly-honed electronic and hiphop infused sonic orchestra in a most dirty and crunked-out way.  Straight dope on these Flying Skulls guys?  They’re dirty.  Dirty beats, dirty grimy low-end, mucked up distorted synthesizers, live syncopated beats flipping between 4/4, 3/4, and 7/8 time. The Skulls distill these elements through their battle-tested mix interface into dancefloor-rending sets of huge beats with a cinematic depth meant for the very largest of soundsystems.  Chromekids recently described their sound as, “A heavyweight collection of nasty synths, wobbly basslines and crunked out glitchy beats so dirty you’d swear they robbed their MPC players off a crack dealer.”
