WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING ABOUT LAPTOP BATTLE:

"LAPTOP BATTLE IS COMING UP IN THE MANNER OF THE DMC DJ CHAMPIONSHIPS" - Portland Mercury

"FOR A NEWER BREED OF MUSICIAN, LIGHTWEIGHT COMPUTERS ARE HEAVYWEIGHT
MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS" - Seattle P-I

"THIS IS YOUR CHALLENGE. ACCEPT IF YOU DARE.." - Keyboard Magazine

WHAT IS THE LAPTOP BATTLE? THE ELECTRONIC MUSIC'S NEW CULTURAL PHENOMENON, from SEATTLE to EVERYWHERE
The laptop battle is a competitive event for laptop musicians to
match their skills against one another. Battles are chosen randomly
and conducted in 3 minute rounds. A panel of judges decides which
contestant advances to the next round, single elimination style. It's a fusion of sound design, composition and stage performance, and a chance for laptop (computer) musicians to prove their skills in battle and develop techniques and strategies.

LAPTOP BATTLE RULES:

1. Gear specifications:
Any gear you want, drum machines, keyboards, racks, as long as it is machine based and will be able to fit with all the other equipment at the venue. **please note: having a lot of gear may not increase your chances of winning or looking cooler then anyone else.

2. Battles are chosen randomly.
Contestants will be paired up randomly to compete against each other. The winner will advance to the next round.

3. Battles are 3 minutes long.
Contestants can choose whether they want a 30 second warning issued by the MC. At 3 minutes the MC will fade out the contestant's output or wack them in the head with a whiffle ball bat.

4. Judges decide the outcome of battles in a single elimination style.
Just like the Olympics, judges will decide the winner of each round based on a point system.

5. Contestants must be at the location of the battle one and 1/2 hours before the battle begins for reasons below.
a. minimum amount of set-up time.
b. alternates will be onsite to take the place of contestants who fail to show up on time.

6. All performances/music must be original
All music used to compete must be original material. You CAN alter a track that is not composed by you to make a new sonic weapon. But just don’t come up there with your Laptop and play some Aphex Twin and expect not get booted.

7. Visuals
Visuals are allowed, but if you plan on doing any visuals with your set please bring all the required equipment and set it up very far in advance.
